Design and Display
The smartphone is built using a metal uni-body design with metal at the back and the sides and 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the top. The front packs in a decent 5.99 inch 18:9 IPS display at a Full HD+ resolution at 1080 x 2160 pixels. The front side sports the earpiece, sensors and the front facing camera. The rear packs the dual rear cameras in vertical orientation, the fingerprint scanner and Mi branding along with the antenna bands. The top houses the IR sensor and the noise cancelling microphone. The bottom part consists of the Type-C charging port, bottom firing speaker and the primary microphone. The right side packs the volume rocker and power button while the left side houses and 2 SIM slots. It measures 158.7 x 75.4 x 7.3 mm and weighs 168 grams.
Processor and Specifications
All variants packs in the same Snapdragon 660 SoC based on 14nm FinFET process of manufacturing and clocked at 2.2 GHz. The Adreno 512 takes care of the graphics intensive duties. There are two available RAM/Storage configurations available at 4/64 GB and 6/128 GB models. Its runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with stock Android as it is based on the Android ONE programme. The update Android 9.0 Pie has rolled out in the month of December.
The front packs a 20MP SONY IMX376 selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture for taking selfies and video calls. The rear packs dual rear cameras with the primary shooter being a SONY IMX486 12MP f/1.75 aperture sensor with PDAF and LED flash and a secondary 20MP SONY IMX376 f/1.75 aperture sensor. The front camera is capable of face unlock which a norm these days for all Android Phones. The front camera has AI-powered semantic segmentation, AI-powered Beautify 4.0, HDR, 4500K soft-toned selfie light, Selfie timer and Group selfie. The rear camera has Portrait Mode, HDR, Panorama mode, Burst Mode, AI Beautify 4.0 etc. On the video front the camera is capable of recording 4K, 1080p, 720p, 480p at 30fps, and Slow motion video(720p at 120fps). EIS is provided for video recording.
To keep running this smartphone, a 3010 mAh battery is provided which in our opinion is not decent enough to last a complete day. The smartphone is charged using the USB Type-C Port at the bottom.
Connectivity and Pricing
Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, IR Blaster and USB Type-C port with no Headphone Jack. The colour options include Gold, Blue, Red and Black. The Mi A2 with 4GB RAM is priced at ₹ 15,999 and and 6GB variant at ₹ 18,999 respectively. It is sold exclusively in Amazon.in and Mi.com.
